Rebuilding Maui: A Call for Support and Unity

On August 8, 2023, our world came crashing down as we received news of the devastating twin disasters that befell our beloved island home, Maui. The relentless fury of Hurricane Dora, coupled with ferocious wildfires, unleashed unprecedented destruction, leaving our hearts heavy and our spirits broken. This catastrophe marked the most devastating wildfire the United States had witnessed in over a century, and the scars it left are etched deep into our souls.
The picturesque town of Lahaina, a place where memories were woven into the very fabric of our lives, now lay in ruins. It was impossible to reconcile the serene Lahaina we knew with the charred remains that stood in its place. But it wasn’t just the buildings and landscapes that suffered. The true tragedy was the human toll. Friends, neighbors and even some we considered family had lost everything. The tales of their desperate flight from the raging inferno were harrowing, and the realization that we had lost so many lives was both shocking and heart-wrenching.
Here in Las Vegas, far from loved ones in Maui, we couldn’t stand idly by. We had to act. Our response was twofold. First, we contributed funds and essential goods to assist the people of Lahaina and Kula in their time of dire need. Volunteering became a part of our routine, as we joined hands with fellow residents to pack goods destined for Maui. It was heartwarming to see the outpouring of support from people around the world. To all those who lent a helping hand, we extend our deepest gratitude – a resounding “Big Mahalo” to you all!
Lastly, we want to remind everyone that despite the devastation, the spirit of aloha lives on. Maui is still open, and its shores are as welcoming as ever. Visitors, your presence is not only desired but needed. By returning to our island, you become a part of the healing process, helping us rebuild and ensuring that the Aloha spirit endures.
In our darkest hours, we have witnessed the incredible power of unity, compassion, and help. Together, we shall overcome, and Maui will rise stronger and more beautiful than ever before.
